A first lash appointment can feel like a big step if you have never had one. Knowing what to expect takes the nerves away, so here is how a first visit works at my studio.
Before you book
Think about the look you want. Do you want something natural or noticeably fuller? Do you want extensions, or would you rather keep your own lashes and have them lifted? Browse the services and the lash and brow terms explained page if any of the words are new. You are welcome to message me with questions before you book.
It also helps to think about your lifestyle. If you work out often, swim, or spend time in steam, tell me, because those can affect how long extensions last. If you have a big event coming up, plan to book your set at least a week or so ahead so you are comfortable with the look before the day.
The patch test
If this is your first lash lift or extension service, I ask you to do a free patch test first. It is about 15 minutes. A small amount of product is applied to see how your skin reacts before the full service. I also ask you to read the Client Intake & Consent Form and the Patch Test form ahead of time. They are on the eyelash extensions info page.
What to do before your visit
- Come with clean lashes and no eye makeup, including mascara.
- Avoid oils around your eyes that day.
- Wear comfortable clothes. You will be lying back for a while.
If you wear contacts, bring a case and your glasses so you can take your contacts out for comfort.
Settling in
You will lie back in a comfortable position and close your eyes. We will talk through the look you want, and I will suggest a length and curl for your eye shape. Extensions are applied with your eyes closed the whole time.
During the service
For a Classic Full Set, one extension goes on each natural lash and the appointment takes about 2 hours. A Mixed Full Set takes about 2 hours 30 minutes. A Lash Lift takes about 30 minutes. You do not need to do anything but keep your eyes closed and stay comfortable. If something feels uncomfortable, tell me and we will adjust.
When it is done
I will show you the finished look and go over aftercare. The basics are to keep your lashes dry for 24 hours, skip mascara and curlers on extensions, and cleanse daily with an oil-free cleanser. You will also get an aftercare sheet. More on that in lash extension aftercare dos and don'ts.
You will leave with the look you chose, and my advice is to look at your lashes in different light before you decide how you feel. They often look more dramatic right after the appointment, and settle in over the next day. Payment is by card, check, cash or Venmo, and we can talk about when to book your first fill, which is usually in 2-3 weeks. You can book online through Square when you are ready.
Find me
I am inside The Lash Room at 10116 Main Street, Suite 105, in Bothell, by appointment only. There is free parking in the lot behind the building. The location page has directions.
You can book your patch test or your service online through Square. I look forward to meeting you.
If you are nervous, that is completely normal. Many first-timers are, and the best thing you can do is ask questions. Nothing about the appointment is rushed, and you can tell me to pause at any point. If you would like to see how the services compare before you decide, lash lift vs lash extensions and classic vs mixed lash sets are good places to start.
Finally, bring your questions. Whether it is how long the set will last, what to do about glasses or contacts, or how to fit fills into a busy schedule, I am glad to talk it through before we start. You can also read the FAQ and the aftercare page ahead of time so you know what to expect.
